Equivalent Conicity

The measuring results of wheel profiles and rail profiles give, as such, valuable and necessary information for maintenance purposes. They provide enough data to create a wear control system which helps railway operators to take actively part in the improvement of safety and the reducing of costs.

However, a deeper understanding of the wheel/rail interaction can be obtained by calculating the equivalent conicity, what can be done with the ec-program. This program uses as basic information data received from GoWheel and GoRail profile measuring devices.

The calculation of the equivalent conicity is becoming more important every day to the extent that the speeds of trains keep growing. The dynamic behavior of the bogie and the wheel/rail interaction is getting the more critical the faster the trains run. Therefore it is obvious that an accurate and reliable wear control system established today will pay back its price many times in the future.
